1 tsp salt
For the dumplings:
1 cup all-purpose flour

Salt and pepper to taste
⅛ tsp garlic powder

In a large pot, combine soup, water, chicken, celery, onion, salt, poultry seasoning, and pepper. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1 ½ hours.

Remove the chicken, shred it, and return it to the pot. Stir in the peas and cook for 5 more minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the dumplings by mixing flour, parsley, salt, baking powder, garlic powder, and pepper in a bowl.
Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough into the boiling soup. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, then uncover and simmer for 10 more minutes. The dumplings will double in size and become fluffy when fully cooked. Serve hot and enjoy!
There's something magical about a pot of Chicken & Dumplings Soup simmering on the stove. The savory aroma fills your home, and the promise of tender chicken, fluffy dumplings, and hearty vegetables wrapped in a warm, flavorful broth feels like a big, cozy hug in a bowl.
This recipe has quickly become one of my go-to comfort foods. It’s loaded with chunks of juicy chicken, sweet peas, and earthy carrots, all swimming in a velvety broth that’s just rich enough to satisfy but light enough to leave you feeling good.
What I love most about this dish is how easy it is to bring together. Whether it’s a chilly weeknight dinner or a meal you’re making to share with loved ones, it comes together with just a little effort. Plus, the recipe is forgiving, so you can tweak it to your liking.

Good food pairings are all about contrast. If you ask me, pairing the rich and creamy Chicken & Dumplings with a crisp, refreshing green salad takes the meal to a whole new level. The salad, which is a simple mix of fresh greens tossed in a light vinaigrette, is the perfect counterbalance to the hearty, savory dumplings.
The crunch of the veggies and the tangy dressing cut through the richness of the main dish, adding a bright, refreshing contrast to every bite. It’s a meal that feels comforting and wholesome, indulgent yet fresh.

10.5 oz carrots
1 small head of cauliflower (separate the florets)
1 head of broccoli (separate the florets)
5.3 oz asparagus
2 tbsp salted butter (softened)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley
Fill the base of a two-tier steamer pan with 5 cm (2 inches) of water and bring it to a boil.
Add carrots to the first steamer basket, place it over the boiling water, cover, reduce heat to medium, and steam for 5 minutes.
Add cauliflower and broccoli to the same basket with the carrots, cover, and steam for another 5 minutes.
Place the asparagus in the second steamer basket, set it on top of the first basket, and steam everything for 10 more minutes until all vegetables are tender.
Meanwhile, mix butter with pepper and a pinch of salt.
Transfer the cooked vegetables to a serving bowl, top with the butter to melt, and sprinkle with parsley before serving. Bon Appetit!
These veggies are quick to prepare and bring so much freshness and color to a dish. Pair your Chicken & Dumplings with a side of lightly steamed vegetables for a perfectly balanced meal that feels both indulgent and nourishing. There’s something so delightful about the contrast between the ingredients.
The creamy, buttery dumplings and tender chicken are warm and filling, while the steamed veggies (you can choose your own) bring a fresh, crunchy element that complements the richness beautifully. They’re the perfect way to round out the dish, adding both texture and a boost of nutrients.

📊Nutritional information (per serving) | Calories🔥 | 275 kcal |
Carbs🍞 | 36 g | |
Protein🍗 | 4 g | |
Fat🥑 | 14 g |
14oz small potatoes, skin on (cubed in large-ish pieces)
2 medium carrots (cut into medium-sized chunks)
1 large parsnip (medium-sized chunks)
1 large red onion (1-inch cubes)
5 garlic cloves (smashed, not peeled)
5 thyme sprigs
3 sage sprigs
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp parsley (finely chopped)
Toss red onion with olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl and set aside.
In a separate bowl, combine the remaining vegetables with smashed garlic, thyme sprigs, and torn sage leaves. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Spread the vegetables (except the red onion) on a large roasting tray lined with parchment paper. Roast at 200°C/390°F for 30 minutes.
Add the red onion to the tray, toss everything, and roast for another 60 minutes, tossing halfway through.
After 1 ½ hours of total roasting time, the vegetables will be sweet and caramelized. Sprinkle with parsley (optional ;) and serve immediately.
Oven-roasted root vegetables offer an extraordinary blend of textures and flavors, making them a hearty and sophisticated pairing with Chicken & Dumplings. The roasted vegetables add a caramelized sweetness and a slightly crisp edge that perfectly complements the creaminess of the stew.
To get the best results, stick to root vegetables and avoid mixing in high-moisture options like zucchini or eggplant. This keeps the textures consistent and ensures that everything caramelizes evenly. I like to use whole herbs and smashed garlic cloves to bring out a deep, aromatic richness without the risk of burning. The result is a side dish that’s as flavorful as it is simple to prepare.

Prepare the dressing by whisking together mayo, apple cider vinegar, mustard, maple syrup, celery seeds, salt, and freshly ground pepper in a medium bowl.
In a large bowl, combine the cabbage, carrots, and scallions. Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss until evenly coated. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, according to preferences.
Serve fresh, and enjoy!
This combo balances the rich, fluffy dumplings with the crisp freshness of coleslaw. If you're craving Chicken & Dumplings but want something a bit lighter on the side, a fresh, tangy, veggie-packed coleslaw is the way to go.
Filled with crunchy red and green cabbage and carrots, this coleslaw is a burst of color and texture that beautifully complements the meal. The lightly creamy, tangy dressing ties everything together, offering just the right balance to the richness of the Chicken & Dumplings.
What I love about this coleslaw is how easy it is to make. It comes together in minutes, and it’s one of those dishes that actually improves if you make it ahead of time. The cabbage and carrots stay crisp, and the dressing soaks into the veggies, enhancing the flavor even more. It’s a healthy, refreshing side that adds so much to the overall meal.
Chicken & Dumplings is a classic comfort food dish consisting of a flavorful chicken stew with soft, doughy dumplings cooked on top. The dish typically includes chicken, broth, vegetables, and seasonings.
You can thicken the broth with a slurry made of flour or cornstarch mixed with cold water. Stir it into the hot broth and let it simmer until thickened. Of course, you can also enjoy a delicious Chicken & Dumplings soup with veggies.
You can add veggies inside the dish, such as carrots, celery, onions, peas, and green beans. But if you want to stick to the classic recipe, you can add veggies as side dishes. As you can see from my list of options, Chicken & Dumplings pairs well with roasted or steamed vegetables, salads, or coleslaw.
You can also add sweet or savory cornbread, creamy mashed potatoes, fluffy buttermilk biscuits or dinner rolls (perfect for soaking up the broth), or pickled vegetables – these add a tangy brightness to cut through the richness.
