Jordan Catapano co-founded This Girl Walks Into a Bar in 2010 with her SoCal sister Jocelyn Dunn Muhlbach. Their venture began on a rainy drive from Los Angeles to Palm Desert, leading to the creation of their first book and subsequently a successful brand. They launched a blog that won Saveur Magazine’s Best Cocktail Blog Award and collaborated with major companies to develop cocktail recipes. Expanding their business, they introduced a bartending services division in Los Angeles in 2016, renowned for its professionalism and friendliness. The company is proudly 100% female-owned and operated, with about 100 employees. DeliveryRank finds out more.
During our blogging years we would often receive requests for bartending referrals from family and friends. We decided it might be worth exploring the bartender staffing world and in 2016, staffed our first party in the Hollywood Hills. We weren’t expecting the business to take off quite as fast as it did, but in Los Angeles there’s a high demand for private bartenders. We’re now booking bartenders almost every night of the week.
We’re forever grateful to Saveur Magazine and to all of our fans who voted for us for the Best Cocktail Blog Award. We were still a relatively new company at the time and that honor definitely put us on the radar of cocktail aficionados around the world. It also lead to some incredible collaborations with companies like Patrón Tequila, Dole Foods, Tabasco, and Chopin Vodka, and that content continues to draws thousands of visitors to our blog almost a decade later.
We are extremely hands on with our clients from the moment they contact us, helping with drink choices, shopping quantities, rental coordination, ice amounts, and many more details that go into planning a successful event. Technically we’re a staffing agency, but we would never consider ourselves in that category because of our boutique mindset. We are available to the client 24/7 leading up to their event and handpick a bartender who we think will be the best match for client. It’s also worth mentioning that 90% of our clients are woman. Women love to support a female owned business but also feel really comfortable having a female bartending in their home or at their business.
We only hire experienced bartenders who have a clear enthusiasm for the industry and an exceptional work ethic. We look for individuals who are willing to go above and beyond for the client by “reading the room” and attending to the needs of the guests. We’ve all been at events where the bartender seems disengaged, or is on her phone behind the bar while guests sit with empty wine glasses and abandoned cocktail glasses at their table. Our bartenders really care about helping to make the client’s event a success and always give 100% at every time. About half of our business is residential and the other half is business. We’ve sent bartenders to a four-person dinner party and a 2,000 person gala. There’s really no event too big or too small for our services.
We get this question a lot and it’s our favorite one! It was our bartending clients who really pushed us to start our CPG company. We’ve always had the idea to launch our own product line in the back of our heads, but after several years working with bartender clients to plan their events, it became clear that this was a venture we had to make. We cannot tell you how many times we’d been asked to recommend cocktail mixers that aren’t filled with artificial colors, flavors, dyes, and a ton a sugar. And when we realized there wasn’t anything on the market to recommend, we started making the recipes ourselves and providing them to our bartending clients. The demand became high enough that we launched the separate company, debuting a certified organic, low-sugar, dye-free Margarita mix first. We do about 450 events a year and can confidently tell you that Margaritas are served at almost every event. The response to our mixers has been outstanding and we’re so excited about the feedback and our growth.
Next month we’re launching two more premium organic mixers: a spicy Bloody Mary mix and a tangy Pineapple Mint Mojito mix. We’ve got three more mixers to debut after that and a snack line in development as well. We are incredibly grateful to all of our fans and customers for their support. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them!
