Freshly vs. Munchery 2025: Only One Delivers To Your Door

Comparing Freshly vs. Munchery is a lot more simple today than it was a few years ago. In the past few years, big changes have happened at Munchery and it no longer offers any meal delivery. Instead, it provides recipes and instructions for anyone cooking at home.

Although the service may be different, there are still some interesting things on offer. Let’s dive into the options the two companies offer and help you find which one works best for you.

Dietary Preferences

Let’s start by looking at how each of these services allows you to filter your dietary preferences while choosing recipes.

Munchery’s collection of recipes offers some filters to help narrow down the options. You can sort by proteins, categories, or diet to help filter out gluten, nuts, meat, or eggs. When cooking, you can easily swap out ingredients to fit your dietary restrictions because you’re responsible for getting the supplies.

Freshly offers a good variety of meals, but you won’t be able to filter them.

Once you select how many meals you want to be delivered, you can scroll through the menu. Each recipe has a few tags at the top (pictured below) so you can quickly see if it’s nut-free, vegan, etc. but you aren’t able to filter the list to only show those recipes.

The great news is that all its meals are certified gluten-free, so if that’s the only dietary restriction you have, you can enjoy anything. Other categories include High Protein meals, like the Keto-Friendly Chicken Bowl with Super Greens Pesto and Cauli Rice that’s packed with 30 grams of protein and <500 Cal dishes like the Fiesta Beef Bowl with Citrus-Twisted Cauli Rice that has only 240 calories.

So while Munchery might provide recipes and cooking instructions for dishes that cater to all types of dietary preferences, Freshly actually does the hard work of sending the meals to your door.

Winner: Freshly

Menu Variety

Munchery has a great variety of recipes available to try. They’re all sorted into categories, making it easy to find the type of meal you’re looking for. Some of those categories include Pasta Pasta Pasta, Fish Beautiful Fish, and Burgers, Steaks, Chops & BBQ. In addition to dinners, you’ll also find a collection of sides and salads to help you make a multi-course meal.

If you’re looking for new recipes, but love doing all the grocery shopping yourself, Munchery could be a great option. The Not Your Mama’s Chicken Taco Salad (pictured above) can be found on the list of the top 20 recipes of all time.

Freshly lets you choose from around 40 different meals. I’m the type of person who likes funky flavors and unique combinations in my meals, which is why I like Freshly’s Takeout Twist category. This healthy twist on takeout food might just be what prevents you from dialing up your favorite fast-food restaurant.

The Crafted Classics, Signature, and FreshlyFit menus are filled with more familiar dishes. Each prepared meal is created by chefs and nutritionists and balanced with quality proteins, healthy fats, complex carbs, and nutrient-dense ingredients.

Winner: Freshly

Starting Prices

With the change in Munchery’s business model, you no longer need to pay to access the recipes. When meal delivery service was an option, it was priced quite a bit higher than its competitors, which is one of the factors that led to the change. You now have access to all the recipes on the website free of charge, but you have to purchase all the groceries yourself.

Freshly has four price options depending on how many meals you order each week. The price goes down as the quantity goes up and ranges from $11.49 to $8.49 per meal.

The shipping fee is calculated depending on your location and how many meals you purchase. It starts at just $3.99 and you’ll get the final price at the checkout screen.

Even though Munchery is free, you aren’t actually getting the ingredients and you still have to do the grocery shopping and cooking. For that reason, Freshly is the winner in this category. You can’t beat the convenience of a prepared meal delivery.

Winner: Freshly

Delivery and Packaging

Munchery used to be available in just a few cities and the company was never able to scale up and expand. The new, online, recipe-only model is available anywhere. Nothing is delivered, so it’s more accessible, as long as you can source the ingredients and have the kitchen utensils needed to cook them – but that definitely isn’t as convenient as ready meals showing up on your doorstep.

Freshly offers multiple options for delivery dates when you sign up, so you can choose what’s convenient for you. Everything comes in a box right to your door and can stay cool for up to 12 hours if you aren’t home when it’s delivered.

Freshly uses recyclable packaging for its meals and box. There’s plastic wrap on some items that can’t be recycled everywhere, so you’ll need to check your local recycling program for more information.

Winner: Freshly

Meal Prep

Munchery used to deliver ready-to-eat meals, but now each recipe includes the time it takes to cook and the amount of “active” time, which is the time you’ll spend actually prepping, mixing, and doing things in the kitchen. It also shows the difficulty level so you can find suitable options if you’re a beginner.

Overall, the recipes seem pretty involved, so this is a good option if you’re looking to spend more time cooking. You also have to factor in the time spent shopping for the ingredients.

With Freshly’s prepared meals, all you have to do is heat them up and they’re ready to eat in three minutes or less. The food is prepared fresh and should be enjoyed within 3-5 days of receipt if you’re refrigerating it – use-by dates are printed on each meal. You can store them in the freezer if you want them to last longer.

Winner: Freshly

The Bottom Line

Munchery is always free and available if you’re looking to take on a brand new recipe in your kitchen and have the time to gather ingredients and pull it together.

But with Munchery out of the game now for meal delivery services, Freshly is definitely our winner. Having a resource for new recipes is great, but the convenience of meals delivered right to your door is better.
