Kim, you have such a unique background, blending your passion for food with a strong business mindset. How did your love for cooking and your experience in marketing come together to create the concept behind Food Fire + Knives?

Our CEO created the concept and when I was introduced to the concept in 2021, I fully embraced it.  We were just coming out of Covid and people weren't as comfortable to go back into restaurants.  I gave dinner as a birthday gift to my son and I had booked through Food Fire + Knives.  I had an amazing experience from start to finish and knew that this company was a place I had to be part of.  Mike(our CEO) and I talked for a few months and I finally convinced him to hire me.  It's been my dream job combining my background with my love of cooking and being part of a team that supports local chefs is truly amazing.

Food Fire + Knives offers an incredible private dining experience. What would you say makes an in-home dining experience with a private chef stand out compared to a traditional restaurant setting?

Where do I start?!  There aren't many restaurants where you get to have up close conversations with an executive chef.  Being able to talk with them, watch them create the dishes while they explain where the ingredients are from or techniques on how to cook them in the intimacy of your own home or rental is a great experience. Then the meal itself- I love cooking but the blend of flavors and the food is incredible.   

You set the ambiance in your location versus having to talk louder in a restaurant due to the amount of people or music.  Plus the chef leaves your kitchen spotless.  It's a wonderful way to spend an evening(or any other meal for that matter).  If you have children, many of the chefs offer kid's menus and not having to worry about children misbehaving or being bored is yet another perk of booking a private chef!

You’ve built a platform that supports local chefs by giving them creative freedom, flexibility, and fair compensation. How do you think this model empowers chefs and impacts the culinary industry as a whole?

Everyone loves the magic professional chefs create with food! Food Fire + Knives’ mission is to empower culinary professionals, connecting them with food lovers all over the USA. We’re excited to promote the work of talented chefs within a framework that allows them creative freedom, flexibility, and the compensation they deserve for their amazing work.  

Private chefs get the best of all worlds in that they get to set their own schedules, create menus that they can execute well on and set their own pricing.  The platform gives them an avenue that they didn't have when they were in a brick and mortar restaurant including the customer interactions.  Many chefs tell us the favorite part of their work is watching their customers enjoy what they created and the discussions about the meal.  Secondly, they get to participate in so many parties and happy times and events.  The interactive community aspect of private chefs is such a positive one and I am so lucky to live vicariously through them to enjoy some of the stories that they share!

As a chef-focused platform, how do you balance creating an amazing culinary experience for guests while also ensuring chefs have a flexible and sustainable career with Food Fire + Knives?

FFK’s online platform markets the skills of accomplished chefs in cities across the USA, reserving private events with food-loving clients. Our chefs are the foundation of all we do. They create a la carte menus according to their Specialities. They set the prices. If a customer need a more customized menu, they work with them to tailor menu items to their specific needs.

Looking ahead, what’s next for Food Fire + Knives? Are there any exciting innovations or changes you’re hoping to bring to the world of private dining experiences in the future?

As far as the platform, we plan to add other complementary services to the private chefs.  Items like bartending, table linens, dishware rentals, stocking the pantry for people staying in rentals for vacations, specialty services for bachelorette parties are just a few of the items we plan to offer within the next year.  As for the food itself, our chefs are creative and continue to find new ways to prepare ingredients and serve up amazing new dishes to try.  I love seeing the new menus come out and the creativity that goes into them!
