Deep Indian Kitchen sets itself apart as a modern, approachable brand that delivers an authentic Indian culinary experience rooted in 3 generations of Indian family expertise and passion for traditional cooking.  Our self-manufactured recipes are crafted in-house and always made from scratch with custom food tech to enable traditional preparation techniques like slow-simmering sauces in multiple batches and grinding spices in-house. We prioritize high-quality, fresh ingredients, such as hand-chopped onions and antibiotic-free chicken, avoiding shortcuts like preservatives or pre-processed components. This approach extends to delivering authentic textures, like the street-cart crunch of our Kati Street Wraps, achieved through a specially designed crisping sleeve and hand-made paratha bread.  Ultimately, Deep Indian Kitchen combines culinary tradition and expertise with modern food science and engineering to bring the bold vibrant flavors of India to the frozen aisle in a premium, authentic, and accessible way.

The use of fresh ingredients and no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives is a strong part of your brand promise. What are some of the challenges of maintaining this level of purity and authenticity in today’s fast-paced food industry?

Prioritizing fresh, high-quality ingredients requires meticulous sourcing and preparation, which can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. Unlike many brands that primarily rely on pre-processed ingredients, we’ve built unique processes focused on premium quality that preserve the integrity of our dishes without shortcuts and truly replicate the Indian home and Indian restaurant experience.  Great Indian food is layered and complex, and it is challenging for us to make it at scale the right way to deliver the authenticity and bold flavors consumers want, especially as we grow rapidly. However, we continue to invest in evolving and expanding our highly customized manufacturing techniques to stay true to our "always made from scratch" promise at a fraction of the price of restaurant alternatives. Whether it’s perfecting traditional preparation techniques or ensuring the consistency of our innovative products like Kati Street Wraps, we focus on bringing an uncompromising, high-quality experience into homes across America.

How do you see the intersection of Indian and American cultures reflected in Deep Indian Kitchen’s product offerings? How do you balance authenticity with catering to diverse American tastes?

Most Americans did not grow up cooking Indian food and lack the time and know-how to make it authentically, so Deep Indian Kitchen provides the vibrant, bold flavors of traditional Indian cuisine in easy-to-prepare formats that meet the American need for convenience.  However, it is important to note that we are not an Indian/American fusion brand.  We are dedicated to elevating and increasing accessibility for authentic Indian cuisine.  Often that requires some consumer education and explanation but we know our millennial, high-income consumers seek authentic global flavor varieties, not an Americanized version of a cuisine or dish.  Products like our Kati Street Wraps are a perfect example, taking the authentic texture and flavors of Indian street food and presenting them in a way that is easy to understand and usable for lunch, dinner, or on the go due to their handheld format and 2-minute microwave preparation. 

This is a delicate balance that starts with staying true to our roots. Every recipe is crafted using traditional techniques and premium ingredients, ensuring the dishes maintain their cultural integrity. At the same time, we consider how our offerings fit into the needs of the modern consumer and how we can explain them to resonate with those familiar with Indian cuisine as well as newcomers.
