Overview

Since 1966, Peet’s Coffee has been providing rich, dark-roasted blends at its shops. Peet’s has long had a great reputation among coffee connoisseurs. But it only has shops in 11 states and a few airports, so it can be difficult to experience Peet’s Coffee for yourself if you’re not in a few select areas.

The company has established a subscription service to meet the demands of coffee lovers who aren’t in a Peet’s Coffee market. You can get Peet’s ground coffee or whole beans on your doorstep, so you’ll always have great coffee on hand whenever you need a cup.

I’ve done a thorough review of the Peet’s Coffee subscription service. I’ve examined key aspects like prices, coffee variety, shipping, and customer service. And after all my research, I’ve found that Peet’s offers a great range of coffees suited to different tastes. If you’re unimpressed with the coffee in your neighborhood, read on to find out more!

What’s on Offer?

Peet’s Coffee is especially famous for its dark roasts, which have intense and rich flavors without the bitterness you sometimes find in dark-roasted coffees. But if you find dark roasts overpowering, you’ll also find a great selection of medium roasts and flavored coffees at Peet’s.

You’ll find a huge selection of coffees for many tastes. Most coffees can be ordered in a range of grinds – drip, press pot/percolator, espresso, and whole bean if you prefer to grind your own coffee. There’s also a section for Single Origin coffee with coffee from the Americas, Indo-Pacific, and Africa/Arabia.

While Peet’s welcomes one-time orders, subscribers save 5% to 10% on their orders and get free shipping. You can choose between the following subscriptions:

  • Dark Roast Series

  • Small Batch Series

  • Medium Roast Series

  • Decaf Series

  • Seasonal Essentials Series

  • K-Cup® Pods Series

  • Single Origin Series

You can also subscribe and save with any individual bag available on the Peet’s Coffee website. This is a great option if you know exactly what kind of coffee you like and want a steady and reliable supply to start your morning.

If you have coffee-drinking friends, you can send them Peet’s gift cards, gift boxes, or gift subscriptions. And if your friends don’t care for coffee, you can also order Mighty Leaf tea or gift cards.

Unboxing

Peet’s Coffee doesn’t add a lot of bells and whistles to its packaging. You get a bag (or multiple bags) of coffee. But what’s important isn’t how it packages the coffee so much as how quickly it arrives.

When you purchase directly from Peet’s, your coffee is roasted, packed, and then immediately shipped. The Peet’s Coffee you buy from other outlets has been stored and then shelved. With a subscription, you get the freshest coffee possible.

The boxes and paper padding are recyclable. The coffee bags are made with PET and aluminum and are recyclable in some but not all municipalities. The bags include tasting notes and suggestions for coffee preparation. The K-Cups are made with recyclable material.

Shortlist of My Favorite Coffees

As a coffee lover, I had a hard time narrowing this list down. But here are my 3 favorites.

Major Dickason’s Blend
Major Dickason's Blend in black packaging with a pink oval background

Major Dickason’s Blend is Peet’s most popular blend. It was developed in 1969 by Alfred Peet with the help of 1 of the first Peetniks (ardent Peet’s Coffee fans), an ex-British Army soldier named Key Dickason.

A blend of Latin American and Indo-Pacific beans, this dark-roasted blend has hints of chocolate, cardamom, and earth. You can get Major Dickason’s Blend in several different grinds, or as whole beans you grind yourself. It’s even available in K-Cups or decaf.

Small Batch Series

With a Small Batch Series subscription, you get a monthly selection of some of the world’s finest coffees. Small Batch beans come from independent farmers in the world’s best coffee-growing regions and are specially selected by the Peet’s team for subscribers only.

Whether it’s a sweet, fruity, honey-processed Costa Rican brew, a complex organically-grown coffee from Bali, or a rich dark cup from the Vietnamese Highlands, you’re sure to be impressed by your monthly Small Batch Series surprise.

Baridi Blend

Baridi Blend is the mix Peet’s Coffee uses when making cold brew in its coffee shops. Made with African beans from Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, this medium roast is less assertive than dark roast, with less bite and more fruity and juicy overtones.

While Baridi Blend will make a great cup of hot coffee, it really shines as a cold brew. Cold brewed coffees are less acidic and have a more rounded and nuanced palate than hot brews. If you haven’t yet tried cold brews, this is a great place to start.

Shipping & Delivery

Peet’s Coffee will deliver orders to almost any address worldwide. You can enjoy its coffee in Croatia and buy its java in Japan.

While Peet’s strives to ship orders on the day they’re placed, it may be up to 2 business days before your order goes out. This most commonly happens with orders that are received late in the day or over the weekend, or orders that include specialty roasts or grinds.

Rescheduling a delivery is easy, and you can do it on the website or on the Peet’s Coffee app.
