In this Delivery Rank’s interview, we’re excited to sit down with Jeff Roberts, owner of Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store, to hear more about the legacy of the business, what sets their pizza apart, and how the store has remained a cornerstone of the community for nearly five decades.

Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store has been a staple in Orange County since 1976. How has the store evolved while staying true to its founding values of family, friendship, and community?

We have evolved by staying true to our roots. We are a local family owned pizzeria totally dedicated to any need. The community has. From school fundraisers to team sports to Children’s Hospital, to fire victims in Los Angeles, Sgt Pepperonis always rises to the occasion. It is with great joy that we use our community space to serve others.

What inspired you and your childhood friends to take on ownership of Sgt. Pepperoni’s, and how has your shared history influenced the way you run the business?

At the time when a group of four families came together to reinvent Sgt Pepperonis, we were looking for a way to celebrate our kids and their childhood. At the very beginning, we looked at Sgt Pepperonis as a place for kids to be kids and we wanted to support that with an incredible pizza product that made the parents come back. We have clearly succeeded over the past 13 years, accomplishing our goal of being The spot for kids and the spot for their parents.

Your team makes dough, sauces, and even desserts from scratch daily. Why is this commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients so important to your brand identity?

Our guests have come to love our product for its quality and taste. We are constantly told that our consistency and the quality is far superior. We tirelessly pursue this perfection every day, and it runs through every member of our team. As a restaurant group based in Orange County, California, expectations are very high, and we are proud to be recognized as the number one pizzeria in Orange County.

How has fostering a family-like atmosphere among your staff contributed to the overall success of Sgt. Pepperoni’s?

We literally call our team members Sgt family members. We genuinely care about and these efforts bolster our success. We provide paid holidays for all of our full-time team members. We do special events and giveaways to show our appreciation. We are very fortunate to have significant high retention because of our endeavors. 

Sgt. Pepperoni’s is deeply rooted in the Orange County community. Can you share some of the ways you give back to the community, and why this is a key part of your mission?

As a landmark brand with a 50 year history, Sgt Pepperonis has allowed us to truly support the community and be a beacon of goodwill. We feel any calling. Must be deeply considered and nine times out of 10 we jump all into it’s just in our DNA and we truly acknowledge our success in our customer support reflects the commitment we have to supporting the community.
