We chat with Chris Appave, Founder and CEO of KETO4ALL! about how he came to adopt the keto lifestyle and how he’s helping to change people’s lives.
“I believe the keto diet is the best lifestyle out there,” says Chris. “And I want to support people’s ketogenic journey by providing all the tools – nutrition, fitness, mental support, and community – they need to live their best life!”
For the majority of my life, I had a pretty active lifestyle – working out regularly and playing sports. I also liked trying different ways of eating, like limiting my fat intake, drinking protein shakes, going sugar-free, and going vegetarian. However, I couldn’t sustain those lifestyles. Either my hunger would get the better of me, I’d succumb to cravings, or I’d completely fall off the wagon after a special event – weddings, parties, or holidays – and never recover.
I’d always had areas of baby fat, which was fine with me, but as I got older I realized it wasn’t just baby fat anymore. I thought the solution was to work out more often and for longer. But despite all my hard work at the gym, I kept on gaining the wrong kind of weight.
I knew I had to change something, and that's when I stumbled on PictureFit's YouTube video: "The Keto Diet Explained". I was instantly hooked! I started Googling everything and anything related to the keto diet. The very next day, I started my keto journey!
At that time, I was a full-time teacher and relied on snacks to get me through my busy day. However, finding keto-friendly snacks was difficult. I really had to go out of my way to find snacks I actually enjoyed.
I thought to myself: “Hey! I used subscription snack boxes in the past and found them a convenient way to have a bunch of different snacks ready when I need them. I just need to find a keto subscription box service!”
Unfortunately, there weren’t many keto snack boxes to choose from in Canada. Many of them only existed in the United States, making it too expensive to subscribe after I’d factored in the exchange rate, shipping costs, and customs taxes.
That was my light-bulb moment! What if I started my OWN Canadian keto subscription box service? I could provide a variety of healthy, keto-friendly snacks to support people, like me, who don’t have the time to find or make suitable snacks, allowing them to stick with their keto journey without being tempted by convenient carbs!
AND THAT... was the beginning of KETO4ALL!
KETO4ALL! is a membership that includes a monthly subscription box delivering the best snacks, sauces, sweets, books, clothes, fitness tools, and much more to support a healthy lifestyle.
We also provide unique recipes, workout guides, and access to deals and discounts to a variety of keto-friendly, sugar-free, gluten-free products that are typically hard to find in stores. Finally, we have a private community group where members can share their experiences and knowledge and can find a place to support one another in their keto/low-carb journey!
There’s A LOT of information about keto out there, including the ways to follow it, and how it benefits different people. Generally, if you have a healthy relationship with food, are not pregnant, and are older than 16 years, then keto could be a great option to lose weight, increase energy and focus, lower inflammation, reduce cravings, and much more!
The key to success on keto is to find a method that works for you and find a community of support where you can share your experience, continue learning, and ask for help when you need it!
Intermittent fasting and keto go hand in hand – they’re like brother and sister. Since keto is so satiating and there’s a reduction in hunger levels, intermittent fasting is a natural companion. And when you combine keto and intermittent fasting, they complement and enhance the benefits of both eating styles!
Intermittent fasting shares many of the same health benefits as keto, like boosting metabolism, reducing insulin resistance, and lowering inflammation.
I don’t see the keto as a diet or a fad. Keto is a lifestyle that mimics the way our early ancestors ate in a “feast and famine” way of life. Our ancestors did not have the luxury of a readily available food source. They relied on feasting (for example, after a hunt) and fasting when food was scarce.
Our ancestors relied on both metabolic systems: using ketones as energy during fasts and glucose as energy when food was plentiful. The keto lifestyle is really going back to the way we used to eat and being metabolically flexible by using both built-in energy systems.
Although keto has been around since the beginning of human history, the “keto diet” is still relatively new to the mainstream. There are many small pockets of keto communities via regional areas, social media groups, and other small outlets. However, there doesn’t seem to be a unifying international keto community yet – at least not that I’m aware of!
We support those who are thinking about or currently living a healthy lifestyle focused on keto, low-carb, and sugar-free eating. The world is our oyster!
With limited access to grocery stores, restaurants, health facilities, community support, etc., the pandemic has caused a fundamental shift in looking at our own physical and mental health through a different lens.
Lots of people have started to look for ways to find alternative convenient foods that limit unnecessary exposure (like grocery stores). Many have found a supportive community through online groups and found ways to be physically fit while staying at home.
We try to provide this support for our subscribers during this unprecedented time while bringing a fun surprise every month to brighten up their day.
I see KETO4ALL! as an important part of the international keto community, providing a central hub for members to share their experiences and support one another, and to expand the global keto community together.
